The Psychiatric Nurses Group was formed and inaugurated on 29 April, 1992 with its first Chairperson as Margeret Kumi (Mrs). The inaugural ceremony was performed by the then PNDC Secretary for Health. Commodore Obimpe. The need for

 

Psychiatric Nurses to come together as a group was necessitated by the following:

• Absence of a National Mental Health Policy
• Lack or shortage of Trained Mental Health Personnel and Technology
• Low Priority Accorded Mental Health and Low
• Value attached to. Mental Health
• The Welfare of members
• Promotion of Good Mental Health in the Country.
